Cost Effectiveness Analysis
Project Donor is an eligibility support program for living kidney donor candidates who face mutable barriers to transplant eligibility - namely, high BMI or tobacco use. We ran a 2-year pilot to estimate the effectiveness of offering free resources and case management to these individuals. Of the 859 participants who have completed our pilot program, 15% have donated at a cost of $384 per participant
We estimate that just $51 spent on Project Donor's services (not including administration) saves one Quality Adjusted Life Year (QALY), comparable to gold standard cost-effective health interventions (i.e. GiveWell)
Project Donor has proven to be a comparatively cost-effective intervention to boost living kidney donation.
